Commuter Resources

Your employer wants you to take a shower!

A growing number of bicyclists are using their commute to enhance their health and enjoyment. Join us for a free lunchtime informational seminar, or ride right in to a three-hour class. Commuter Classes are held on a monthly basis at locations in and around downtown Seattle.

Free lunchtime informational seminars
These free informational seminars are offered during the noon hour at or near downtown workplaces. Join an overview of bicycle commuting and find out if it's for you.

Light snacks and refreshments may be provided at some locations. See seminar schedule for details.

Three-hour classes
Want to know more about what it takes to commute by bicycle? Feel like you're ready to try it, but need a few pointers? Join a three-hour bicycle commuting class, and learn:

  • safe bicycle operations in traffic
  • strategies for carrying items (work clothes/work items)
  • riding at night and in foul weather
  • using bike racks on buses
  • minor bicycle repairs

There will be an optional on-road skills session immediately following the class. Bring your bike and helmet if you want to ride.

Incentive
In addition to the invaluable knowledge and skills gained in these classes, eligible participants will receive a $50 gift card upon completion of the class.

Help! I need a Route Advisor before I can get on the road!
Take a look at our commuting message boards, post your own message, and get a wealth of knowledge. Or, get your own personal Route Advisor.

Route Advisors were once new bicycle commuters, too, and the help they received from experienced commuters made all the difference. Route Advisors have been commuting in and around Seattle a little bit longer, and they bring a real, on-the-ground knowledge about how to get around by bicycle from any direction. A Route Advisor can help you plan your bicycle commute to work by offering tips for best and alternative routes, and may even take that first ride with you.

Deposit
Classes require a reservation and a $20 deposit* to hold your place. Check the schedule for details.

Cancellation policy
Classes may be cancelled for any reason at any time. If a class you are enrolled in is cancelled, you will have first priority entry into any other class, or a full refund of your deposit.

* These classes are free and put on by the Cascade Bicycle Club, in partnership with the city of Seattle. The $20 deposit is fully refundable and holds your place in the class. The Cascade Bicycle Club would be delighted if, after completing the class, you choose to donate your deposit to help support the work of the Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation. Donations to the Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law.
