Suggested Multi-Use Trail Etiquette for Cyclists and Pedestrians
- Bicyclists, please wear a helmet (It’s the law in Seattle. $81 fine).
- Walkers, please walk on the far right, no more than two abreast.
- Dog owners, curb your dogs to the grass. Dogs must be on a leash.
- Bicyclists please announce in a loud voice “On your left!” and/or ring your bike bell before passing other cyclists or pedestrians. Do not pass in silence.
- Bicyclists, please keep speed under 15mph in crowded areas.
- Bicyclists, stop at all intersections, especially before cross walks with pedestrians in or near crossings.
- Bicyclists, no time trialing or racing on trails.
- Bicyclists, form single file when approaching oncoming pedestrians or fellow cyclists.
- Bicyclists/joggers/pedestrians/dogs should wear reflective clothing and blinking lights in any low-light conditions. Don’t be an invisible “Trail Ninja”.
- Be courteous to all trail users. Smile and say “Hi!” to your fellow trail users.
