Road Bike Camps

Road Level I – The Basics
Ages: 11 and up
Tuesdays & Thursdays; 4:30-6:30pm

  • Day 1: Road rules – bike safety, traffic signs & signals, intersections, etc
  • Day 2: Emergency skills – quick stop, scanning for cars, and rock dodge
  • Day 3: Bike handling skills and drills – agility fun course
  • Day 4: Maintenance – fix-a-flat

One hour skills plus one hour rides on the Burke Gilman trail. Bring a bike and helmet.

Road Level II – Intro to Performance Riding
Ages: 12 & up
Tuesdays & Thursdays; 4:30-6:30pm

Prerequisite: Road Level I, Urban Cycling Camp, or instructor permission

  • Day 1: Road rules and group riding skills
  • Day 2: Drafting and pacelines
  • Day 3: Climbing and descending
  • Day 4: Cornering and bike handling

Be prepared to ride at a high steady to low moderate pace on the Burke and some neighborhood street riding. One hour skills plus one hour ride. Bring a road bike or mountain bike with slick tires and a helmet.

Urban Cycling Camp
Ages: 12 and up
May 1 and 3, 5-6:30pm (additional dates TBA)

The first part of this three hour class is in classroom with urban riding basics including road rules, safety and crash facts. The second part takes place on the bike and includes tips and tricks for jumping pot holes, hopping, track stands, and emergency skills for crash avoidance. Bring a bike and helmet

Road bike programs are funded by Larry Kemp Memorial Fund / WSBA (WA State Bicycle Association).


Mountain Bike Camps

Mountain Level I– The Basics
Ages: 10 and up
Tuesdays and Thursdays; 4:30-6:30pm

Location: Saint Edward State Park, Kenmore

  • Day 1: Gearing up, braking, shifting and body position
  • Day 2: Balance – teeter-totter, boards, slow race
  • Day 3: Climbing and descending
  • Day 4: Obstacles – small (½ -1ft high), front wheel lifts
  • Plus: Maintenance – fix-a-flat, dirt rules

First hour focuses on skills and the second hour we ride. Bring a bike or borrow one of ours.


Mountain Level II – Intro to Performance Riding
Ages: 12 and up
Tuesdays and Thursdays; 4:30-6:30pm

  • Day 1: Cornering – switch backs, berms, off camber
  • Day 2: Medium obstacles - roots and logs, front and rear wheel lifts and manuals
  • Day 3: Drops – small to medium (1-2ft high)
  • Day 4: Jumps – small to medium size (1-2ft)
  • Plus: Maintenance – fix-a-flat, dirt rules

First hour is for skills, second hour is for faster paced trail riding.


  • Instructors are all USA Cycling Certified, trained in LAB (League of American Bicyclists) Road I (Urban Cycling Techniques, UCT), first aid and CPR certified, and are local racers.
  • Added educational support from Cycle U.
  • Assistants are junior racers from Rad Racing NW.
  • Scholarships available – contact Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation for details
  • $5 late fees if registering within 10 days of the class.

Group Health Bicycle Camps for Kids

Cascade and YMCA Summer Bike Camps
Ages: 9-12
June 25 - Aug 3

  • Day 1: Road rules, safety rodeo
  • Day 2: Track riding at the Group Health Velodrome
  • Day 3: Mountain Biking with Trips for Kids Seattle
  • Day 4: Magnuson street smarts, fix-a-flat, freeride stunt course
  • Day 5: 12 mile ride on the Burke Gilman Trail to Gasworks Park and back.

This super fun camp is a great introduction to many styles of riding. Bikes and helmets are supplied.
