Group Health Commute Challenge
Registration FAQs

Team Registration Information
Thank you for taking the time to read this important information about registering a team for this year's contest. Register your team today!

Team Information
Teams can be either an individual class team (team of one person) or a group team. Group teams must be at least four members and cannot be more than ten members.

Members can be added to a team at any time and members may be removed from a team until the last week of the contest. After the third week, members who are no participating will remain listed on the team roster and the miles logged by inactive members will still count toward the team totals.

A person can only be registered to one team. Each team member must have a distinct email address. Persons sharing the same email address can be on different teams but not on the same team because you log into the system using your email address (and a team password).

Organization and Department
Many companies are listed in the database; be sure to list the correct organization and department name. Example; if you work for Safeco Insurance at their Northgate branch than Pick Safeco as the Organization and Northgate Branch as the Department. After submitting your registration you will be prompted to select the organization a second time. This is to make sure you select the correct Organization name if there are more than one organization in the database that is similar to the organization you enter.

A Team of One
For the purposes of this contest, individual registrations are considered teams of one.

Password
You will need to come up with a unique password for yourself and your team (if you are not signing up as an individual). Use up to twelve alpha numerical characters that you will remember!

Registering a Team
Come up with a creative team name. There will be voting (by anyone that wants to) for the Most Creative Team Name. Names deemed unsuitable will be removed form the contest. Unsuitable names include any type of word you would probably NOT use around your Thanksgiving table (before the dessert wine!)

Unless you want to register an individual class team (where the team captain is the only member of the team), you must register a minimum of four (and a maxiumum of ten) team members when you register the team. For each team member you will need, at least, the following information:

Name (First and Last)
Email address*
Gender
New Commuter Status**

* You will need a different email address for each team member, a duplicate email address will not work on our new website. So before registering a team, you, or your team members, may have to open an email account on www.yahoo.com or www.hotmail.com. Note: All participants will receive a fun and informative weekly Electronic newsletter for the duration of the contest. Participants can change their email address at any time if they prefer to receive these transmissions an an alternative address. At the end of the contest they will continue to receive Cascade Bicycle Club "Braking News" updates; at this time they can choose to opt out by following instructions on the bottom of the transmission. We NEVER share emails with any third party organization or company.

** A new commuter is defined as someone new to bicycle commuting, that is, someone who has not tried bicycle commuting more than 10 times in the past year. If you ride in last year's challenge then you do not qualify as a new commuter.

Team members do not require internet access during the challenge. Once registered, the Team Captain can enter all the trip data for participants.

Trip & Mileage Definitions

Please ONLY enter mileage that is your actual commuter mileage, not any recreational or add-on miles that you put in shopping or doing errands. Its fantastic that so many of you decide to leave your car at home in May and do your everyday chores by bike: YOU ROCK! But that said, this is a commuter based contest that is governed by everyone's own personal code of honor. Also if you ride a bike FOR work; this mileage is not commuter mileage and cannot be entered. You may take a bus/car part of the way; just do not include the bus mileage in your counts.

If you are new to bicycle commuting, please visit our resources page for great tips on getting started.
