Helmet and Bike Fit
Please Wear A Helmet! (It’s the law in King County and an $81 fine!)
Helmet Fit/Adjustment
- Inside of helmet should be comfortably snug, but not “pinch” the head/temple.
- Chin strap should be able to fit comfortably. No more than two fingers between strap and your chin when buckled.
- Make sure the front of the helmet completely covers your forehead.
- “Y” strap’s adjustable slider/clip should come up to bottom of ear.
- Always trade-in your helmet after a fall, no matter how small an impact it receives. (Manufacturers often have a “crash-replacement” program.)
Proper Bike Fit
- Straddle bike’s top tube and check that you have 1”-2” of stand over clearance. Anything less can be noticeably painful in an emergency dismount. (Ouchie!)
- Sit on seat and rotate pedal to its lowest point. Knee should have a slight bend. Adjust seatpost height accordingly.
- Riding the bike, rider should have a comfortable position with butt comfortably situated on middle-rear portion of saddle. Adjust fore/aft position of saddle until you find “the sweet spot”.
