For more information about the program contact: Serena Lehman, Outreach Program Coordinator HistoryIn 2007, under Mayor Nickels’ Climate Action Now initiative, the City of Seattle contracted Cascade Bicycle Club to run a three-year bicycle education and encouragement program -- Bike Smart Seattle. Each year we are focusing on two areas of the city to provide summertime programming, such as group rides, repair clinics, and special events. We are also offering incentives for bike riding, such as coupons and free maps. We are working with community groups and neighborhood councils to reach as many residents as possible. In 2008 we focused on the Central East (south of SR-520, north of I-90 and east of I-5) and Northwest (north of the Ship Canal and west of SR-99) regions. In 2009 we are focusing on the Southwest (including West Seattle and South Park) and Northeast (north of the Ship Canal and east of SR-99) regions. In 2010 we will focus on the Central West/Downtown District (including Magnolia, Queen Anne and South Lake) and the Southeast Seattle (south of I-90 and east of the Duwamish River) region. |
