Give Cyclists of Space
Campaign Background
In 2006, the Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation received a prestigious Transportation Enhancements (TE) grant from the federal government to develop bicycle commuting programming through July 2008.
In addition to devising pilot corporate commuter programs with six companies in King County (Mithun, Group Health, Institute for Systems Biology, Cutter & Buck, Boeing and Microsoft), we allocated a portion of this grant to fund a public education advertising campaign aimed at encouraging motorists to modify their driving behavior when approaching cyclists. The message is simple: “Please give cyclists three feet of space” in order to create safe travel for everyone.
In addition to the initial TE funding, Group Health Cooperative generously contributed matching funds and creative support. The campaign will be seen at the height of the bicycle commuting season from May 2007-July 2007 on King County Metro busses (with rear “Tail” positioning) and on billboards spread throughout King County.
