Free Classes: Bike Smart Seattle

Bike Smart Seattle is a city of Seattle program offered in partnership with Cascade Bicycle Club, from June through August. For a schedule of free classes offered through Bike Smart, check the Bike Smart Calendar.

Basic Maintenance (1 1/2 hours)

This is a great class to help care for your bike over the course of the year. Keeping your bike maintained helps make parts last longer as well keeping you safer. Learn to:

  • Fix a Flat
  • Cleaning your chain
  • Minor brake adjustment

Commuting Basics (1 1/2 hours)

Want to know about what it takes to commute by bicycle? Interested in bike commuting but don’t know where to start? Come join us for 1 ½ hour beginning commute class and learn:

  • Bike fit
  • Gear you need to ride comfortably
  • Safe bicycle operations in traffic (traffic laws, lane positioning)
  • Strategies for carrying items (work clothes/work items)
  • Riding at night and in foul weather
  • Using bike racks on buses

This course is intended to give an overview of what you need to get started and to ride safely. What you learn in this course will help you ride more comfortably and confidently around town. Interested? Come on out. It’s free, and everyone is welcome.
